Hello world!

I suppose this is the place where I share a little bit about myself. My name is Hayley. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, raised in Vienna, Virginia and currently residing in Kailua, Hawaii. As I think back to how I came to be here, I realize that it was through a series of windows of opportunity. These windows of opportunity were created and discovered through travel and the people I have met, by the wonderful and uncomfortable realm of pushing comfort zones, and through pursuing my passions. I have had experiences that I thought were strictly a part of someone else’s story. These include living in a tent for five months, trekking to Everest Base Camp, hitch-hiking my way through South America, becoming a whitewater kayaker, and to where I am now – working as a sea kayak guide and SUP instructor on the most remote island chains in the pacific – Hawaii!

I fell in love with travel when I studied abroad at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. Even at that point, I thought that travel had to be an expensive, infrequent, and grandiose adventure until I discovered otherwise. Through seasonal positions, finding employment off-shooting from a passion, and living minimally in a way that allows me to save, I have found the funds and flexibility that allows for travel and adventure at this point in my life. Why am I writing this blog? I want to share my stories, my photos, and my ideas – ways to make it work, inspiration, and motivation. I don’t claim to have it all figured out, (I admittedly don’t know what’s beyond December), but that’s okay – it’s all part of the adventure.

Aside from travel, my passions include photography, whitewater kayaking, backpacking, exploring new cultures, and doing the things that push myself. If you have pushed the comfort zone, then you know that’s where the magic happens. I can’t wait to share the best of Oahu with you, the how-to’s of a working traveler, photographs, stories, and more.

Cheers, friends!
